I am really excited to pen this purpose thought, because I had the privilege of meeting one of the authors of the book titled, “Unbounded Organizing in Community”, written by Dr. Gavin Andersson and Dr. Howard Richards. Oh, did I also mention that Dr. Gavin Andersson, hand delivered the book to me? 🙂 Yep, that was a great moment. This is one of my favourite books. I loved the easy to read style of the book and the practical guidelines of how people and communities, can organize themselves to bring about social change.
One of my favourite statements from the book is how they define organization, i.e. organization is “getting together to do things we cannot do alone”. This resonated so deeply because, we have learnt that living a life of purpose is not a solo sport but rather a community sport. Organizing with other people and like-minded brands has been one of the best decisions Pen The Vision has ever made. Other people bring insights, ideas and resources that one would not have thought about. Working with a community of people also challenges you to show up in the world with a holistic offering that caters to diverse needs.
So, this month’s purpose thought is, purpose needs a tribe to express itself to serve humanity. Though an idea may make its first appearance in your mind, the great execution of that idea will be the summary of many individual minds and hands.
